CRACKED RAY TUBE

Cracked Ray Tube is a realtime audio/video installation, performance, and hardware hacking/digital programming project by James Connolly (Chicago) and Kyle Evans (Austin) that explores the latent materiality of analog cathode ray tube televisions and computer monitors. Active since 2010, we've shown work at the GLI.TC/H Festival in Chicago, the Vancouver New Music Festival, Columbia College Chicago, the Ukrainian Institute of Modern Art, the Dallas Medianale, and won 2nd place in the 2012 Guthman Musical Instrument Competition. We distribute the plans for our isntrumentation as tutorials under the COPY-IT-RIGHT philisophy, and teach hardware hacking and DIY video synthesis workshops. We consider ourselves part of the Chicago Dirty New Media community.
