CRACKED RAY TUBE

An important part of the Cracked Ray Tube project is the dissemination of our tools and artisic techniques through tutorials, workshops, essays, and artist talks. Our technical and conceptual practices are outlined below in writing theorizing the revival of the obsolete cathode ray tube as an artistic object in the digital present, and tutorials on hardware hacking and DIY video synthesis. We regularly lead workshops at schools and venues to accompany our installations and performances. If you're interested in hosting a workshop, event, or talk, get in touch with us at crackedraytube[at]gmail[dot]com.

WARNING: the tutorials below contain information on opening, discharging, and modifying a cathode ray tube, which is an incredibly dangerous process. Use them at your own risk and only if you are experienced with electronics. Never leave any exposed wires when modifying a CRT, and regularly inspect your modifications to ensure that their proper upkeep is maintained. Never experiment inside of a CRT; connecting improper wires or making improper modifications can be dangerous. Only modify while sober.
