CRACKED RAY TUBE

Our workshops use the cathode ray tube as a platform to teach students how to make DIY audio/video synthesizers and analog video transmitters. Designed for beginners or those with advanced electronics skills, students learn techniques such as soldering, hardware hacking and circuit bending, and gain knowledge of analog and digital audio/video synthesis and DIY electronics. The workshop incorporates theories of reappropriating technological e-waste for artistic purposes, and discovering new and alternative aesthetic purposes for obsolete devices. We covers two of our tutorials (Building a DIY VGA cable to bend audio into video and Building a DIY analog video transmitter) and thoroughly discuss the tools and system we use for our performances and installations.
